The thing is that (in my opinion) most of the extremist anti-trans rhetoric in the region is coming from the top down, as GOP leaders look for issues to run on. They don't have much else to talk about other than fear mongering. In Michigan the effect is more pronounced perhaps than in Ohio, because the Michigan GOP is in chaos right now, having not recovered at all from stinging losses in 2020 and 2022. The Ohio GOP is in better shape, but they're running from big losses centering around abortion.

What I'm saying is, I don't think most people on the ground are up in arms against trans people. These pols aren't responding to a grass roots anti-LGBTQ battle cry. They're trying to create one.

So, your family may be fine, really. In fact, some polls are showing that the average Ohian is getting exasperated with GOP pols.
