The shooter, as I examined in a story yesterday, glorified racist, antisemitic, homophobic, sexist ideas. He wasn't the brightest bulb in the box given that he cited Chaya Raichik, a homophobic Jewish woman, as one of his biggest inspirations.
Also, as an Hispanic person, most of the white supremacist groups he praised would have outright rejected him as non-White.
But he wore their Right Wing Death Squad patch anyway. Go figure.
People can cite sexual frustration all they want as a "cause" of his violence, but that's just so much nonsense. If anything caused his actions, radicalizing hate groups and individuals did — including Chaya Raichik herself — and the tech managers who let the hatred be platformed and amplified.
As you point out, American young people are having plenty of sex, arguably much more sex than during period like the 1950s.
So why have mass shootings INCREASED dramatically? Clearly, the sexual frustration hypothesis can't explain it. But plenty of other things can — including a recent explosion in military-style assault rifle ownership and a proliferation of radicalizing hate groups.
