The Republican Party will stop at nothing to continue reinforcing white supremacy. And make no mistake, the think tank advocating this position is dead-center, mainstream Republican. Ronald Reagan was a member.
Ironically, the "natural born citizen" definition they propose would have excluded several early U.S. presidents, so it's not like they can claim originalism or history in advancing something so novel
But then, nobody expects consistency from Republicans come, do they?
I guess what astonishes me the most is that pretty much all of us Americans learn from a very young age that the Dred Scott decision was a shameful moment in our judiciary history. It's held up (or at least it was for me in high school in conservative Iowa) as an example of the human capacity for evil.
And Republicans are voting it? Openly? Wow!
How far the party of Lincoln has sunk!
(Not that we needed this example to realize that.)
