The problem with police at Pride is a big deal in the U.S. too as many queer people demand that law enforcement stay out of Pride events unless and until cops stop murdering and brutalizing members of minorites on the regular.

Cops in the U.S. are out of control; they are mostly brutal, racist, homophobic, transphobic, violent thugs. When Proud Boys and other self-declared white supremacists terrorize queer people at Pride events and drag queen events, we queer people expect to see cops fist bumping the fascists, either egging them on or standing back and doing nothing while the fascists beat us.

I've written article after article illustrated by photos of cops doing what I just described.

It sounds like cops in Australia are every bit the pigs that cops in the U.S. are.

I'm sad to hear that some Australian queer people are on board with that sort of appalling behavior, but I'm not shocked. Here in the U.S., we have our own problems with relative privileged (mostly white, male) LGBTQ folks who don't stand up for their more marginalized queer siblings.
