The police in this situation are essentially saying, "We insist on coming into your space safe spaces armed to the teeth. We don't care how that makes you feel. We don't care that you know we regularly use our weapons to brutalize and kill members of minorities. You're going to just have to suck that up and deal with the fact that we're in charge and you aren't."

The fact those officers did not simply leave, the fact that the chief of police had to make a big deal of the issue, is just another example of how out of touch, how deeply immoral, and how authoritarian and dictatorial police are in the United States.

They do not view themselves as public servants, they view themselves as masters. If we don't like it, they will force themselves on us no matter what.
