The pleasure of being boring! Yes!
My partner and I experienced that when we moved to Montreal. Both of us came from pretty homophobic cultures, him from rural Australia, me originally from the conservative American heartland.
When we moved into an apartment in a working-class Montreal neighborhood, we instinctively kept our heads down. We described ourselves as roommates if anybody asked, we didn't make waves.
Then we found out that our neighbors couldn't care less. Gay couples were neither objectionable nor particularly interesting. When we fostered a child, that was sort of interesting. My partner's rugby skills were interesting. Our efforts to learn French were interesting (and sometimes amusing!)
We ended up forming close friendships in the neighborhood, and that was first time in my life I got to experience being seen as ordinary, even boring.
I'm very happy that you now got to experience that sometimes!
