The obvious ineffectiveness of intercessory prayer troubles a lot of religious people raised to believe in it. Prayer as connection with the divine is a much more widespread worldwide spiritual practice than intercessory prayer, and I've often wondered why conservative Christians emphasize intercessory prayer.
