The National Cathedral is one of my favorite institutions in the United States. I am not personally religious, but I seriously appreciate the cathedral's efforts to be inclusive and supportive of all Americans.
When you mentioned not being charged admission to see the windows, I remembered that Matthew Shepard's remains were interred in the cathedral in 2018. Shepard was the young college student who was tortured and beaten to death for being gay.
His remains in the cathedral serve as a reminder and focal point for LGBTQ resistance.
The cathedral does not charge admission to those who visit to honor him, as they do not charge admission to people who come to see the new windows.
It's wonderful to see such a symbolically important national institution take such principled stands today, even if past acts were not so well principled.
