The last development, as far as I’m aware, is it Heritage of Pride offered to let the Gay Officers Action League March in future parades as a unit with a banner so long as they are not in uniform and not armed.
They have refused that offer, and that’s where things stand now.
As far as which groups the New York City Police Department might brutalize more, I don’t think any of the organizers find to be a very interesting question.
They do brutalize black people, they do brutalize trans people, and they do brutalize gay people.
While they do that, regardless of what the percentages are and who they may brutalize more or less, they are not welcome to participate in uniform at Heritage of Pride events.
The New York State Police Commissioner did apologize for Stonewall, by the way. But since the department continues to be excessively racist and brutal toward minorities, the apology is not accepted and not important.
What matters is they stop being racist and stop brutalizing people. When that happens, then conversations can begin. Until that happens, that apology is nothing but meaningless words.
We aren’t interested in words, we are interested in action.
