The idea that basic human rights, that basic human decency, should be sacrificed on an altar of politics is all too common. Here in the United States, we're just seeing breaking news that the state of Texas killed a suicide hotline directed at transgender teenagers, all in the name of political expediency. Yes, a Republican administration did this, but the point is the same, really.

How is recognizing basic humanity and exercising basic decency something that ought to be politically controversial?

This is witch hunt mentality, and it's getting worse not better.
