The federal judiciary at all levels has made crystal clear that filming police as they execute their duties is protected First Amendment activity.

One circuit court, and forgive me for not looking up the citation right now, has even described filming police during traffic stops as (and I'm paraphrasing) constitutionally protected expressive conduct critical to life in a free society.

But too many cops just aren't getting the message! Too many of them try to find excuses for why a particular filming should not be allowed.

They cite "officer safety" and otherwise quibble to stop people from filming them.

But their ability to protect themselves with qualified immunity is narrowing constantly as courts keep throwing their excuses out.

Let's hope this case ends up going down the same way!
