The details here are egregious. The traffic stop was initiated because the license plates didn't match the registered vehicle. Lyoya expressed confusion, did not seem to understand the questions being posed to him, and appeared frightened. The cop escalated the situation rather than de-escalating it by becoming increasingly hostile in the face of misunderstanding. So Lyoya tried to run away. That's where the incident should have ended. The cop had the car. He was able to do whatever kind of investigation was necessary. There was absolutely no need to chase and have a physical altercation with a nonviolent person who was trying to flee. The officer had his identity already and all the details about the vehicle. What was so all fired important about running after and fighting this guy?

This is the kind of GI Joe bullshit that serves no purpose other than getting more Black people killed. It's not professional, it doesn't make the community safer, and it certainly doesn't improve relationships between police and citizens.
