The ability to tell a story is one of the reasons I love it. I can look back and remember when letters got added or changed order. I can remember people wondering whether the Q meant questioning or queer, and if it mattered. I remember people arguing about whether bisexual needed to be in the mix at all.

The T seemed to be the easiest one. I don’t remember anyone seriously objecting to it when we first started using it. It seemed so obvious and necessary.

I wouldn’t have predicted the difficulties that would emerge later as some gay men began to take their normalization for granted.
