That’s really cool. I was already middle-aged by the time Modern Family came out, so it didn’t have the seminal influence on me that it did on you. But I liked it. A lot.

I sort of hadn’t stopped to think about the positive message it would send to young gay teens. But as you write about it, that just seems so obvious.

And your story reminds me again how much we need positive stories about our lives in the media.

I mean, not that Mitch and Cam were always happy. They had their problems. But they were ordinary problems like everybody has.

As an artist I feel powerfully compelled sometimes to explore tragedy. You’ve reminded me why other kinds of writing matter a lot too. Thanks!
