That's quite a story, David! Itt reminds me very much of my own, similar treatment in the US military. I served in the US Air Force, and had a relatively positive experience, though I ended up not pursuing a career because I was afraid of exactly what happened to you. I separated in 1990 before the infamous Don't Ask Don't Tell (DADT) era instigated a witch hunt that destroyed a lot of people based on innuendo and guilt by association.

As in your case, most of the people seriously harmed by DADT have never been made whole, and probably never will be.

There has been some moved to upgrade discharges, but it's not automatic, and it's hardly good enough.
