That's "othering" for you. It's classic "despise the outsider" thinking. It's funny how Christianity seems to have been founded to oppose othering, but is often today a force for despising the outsider, whether the outsider is queer, an immigrant, Black, or whatever other characteristic might set a person apart from the mainstream.
