That school official backed down only slightly, which is a point I made in the article itself. Do you really believe teachers and librarians in that district are going to be comfortable with any kind of LGBTQ discussion given the district superintendent's pretty blunt opinion about the matter? How about other districts in Republican run states all over the US that are doing very similar things?

Also, my point about Section 28 rather rests on the fact that it ended 20 years ago in the UK but that it's being resurrected today in the US.

Furthermore, schools officials and teachers in Florida are as unable to address the root causes of homophobic bullying under the Don't Say Gay law as teachers were unable to under Section 28.

Schools can't hold an assembly to tell people not to bully gay kids for being gay or trans kids for being trans. Because they're not allowed to talk about it.
