I wrote a long and thoughtful piece in which I talk about trans issues and about trans characters in my fiction.
I clicked on your comment, expecting some interesting dialogue. All you have to say is that you don’t want me to call Ru Paul “she.”
When drag queens are in drag, it’s customary to call them she. It would be rather dissonant to do otherwise.
I’m happy to address people by the pronouns they prefer for themselves. I do refer to people by the pronouns they prefer for themselves.
I’ve known a lot of drag queens who prefer to be called “she” when they’re performing.
And that’s OK.
And it doesn’t negate your own pronouns.
Here’s a story I wrote about a friend of mine, a story in which pronouns are difficult.
I called Carla, the human in the story, by the pronouns she wanted used. That’s the same courtesy and respect I would extend to you.
You and Carla are different from one another of course, as you and Ru Paul are different. I know plenty of gender queer and non-binary humans who don’t like to used gendered pronouns at all. They’re different from you too, as they’re different from me. But we can all still extend courtesy and respect to one another.
Respect means that I’ll honor your pronouns for yourself.
It also means you can’t dictate the pronouns I use for others.
