That sounds like a reasonable hypothesis, but it raises an interesting question. Why did the pork taboo never take hold in Europe, where chickens and pigs were essentially equally valued in poorer and more urban populations?
I mean, I don't think that's necessarily a failure of your hypothesis. It could just be coincidence that a taboo took hold in one region, largely or partly for an identifiable reason, but didn't take hold in another region.
