That cover art brings back so many memories! Most of the memories revolve around constantly seeing the book in gay bookstores, leafing through it, and then for some reason choosing to put it back down.

I don't know what took me so long, but I finally read it in the mid to late 1990s, and it just blew me away. I think it's among the best novels about the gay experience written in the 20th century.

Yet Hollingsworth has never received the acclaim and recognition as say an Edmund White or an Armistead Maupin. Their novels remain pretty much universally in print. Not so for Swimming Pool Library.

But it's more than worth a read, and thank you very much for sharing this story about it!
