I was a little nervous about publishing this, honestly. It’s one of the pieces that got me banned from Quora.
Moderation classified it as “hate speech.”
I have a complicated relationship with Christianity, having grown up as a true-believing evangelical Christian in an an intensely homophobic tradition.
I don’t think I’ve crossed the line to anti-Christian or anti-Catholic in this piece, though.
I think I told the truth and explained my position pretty clearly.
I think that religion should never be an excuse for homophobia or for hurting people.
I think the official Catholic Church is homophobic and that it actively works to hurt people.
I think I ought to be able to make that observation through personal memoir without being branded as a hater.
Anyhoo, off of rant mode.
Sorry for venting.
Thanks so much for your feedback!
