Thanks for this! Stereotypes are a very complex subject sometimes, huh? Some of them can contain elements of accuracy and elements of harm at the same time! For example, as a cisgender gay man, I grew up as something of a stereotype, struggling to express expected masculine behavior "rules."
So for me, the issue of stereotyping is a bit fraught. A common pushback to the effeminate gay man trope goes something like, "That's a stereotype. Don't you understand that not all gay men are like that? Some or maybe most of them are perfectly normal!"
Cough.
So, the challenge, which I think you've expressed well, is to counter the harm of stereotypes.
How to do that is not always perfectly clear!
In fact, you've just inspired me to write an article about the subject. Thanks. :-)
