Thanks for this article. I have to say that the presidents' position is extraordinarily disappointing. If religious institutions wish to remain relevant in society, hardly a given considering shifting demographics, they should want to help with the heavy lifting of justice and equality.

I can’t imagine anything about critical race theory offending the Jesus who told the parable of the Samaritan.

He was, after all, criticizing systemic injustice when he told that story. The religious establishment of his time found his parable offensive.

Perhaps that’s something the Southern Baptist convention should ponder.
