A friend of mine just shared a similar story with me about his ex-boyfriend in southern England who had to similarly advocate for himself with his physician to get tested and diagnosed. Even though monkeypox hit the UK a little earlier than the US, apparently self advocacy is still necessary there in places.
On a side note, as a former Chelsea resident who lived in the neighborhood through the worst of the AIDS era, the thought of gay men lining up for a virus test is more than a little damn triggering.
So is knowing that government agencies are late to or absent from the ball game.
