Thanks for responding, Ray. I think “furious” is very much how I feel, even now after the Chauvin verdict. I can’t directly feel the anger of the Black folks being brutalized and killed by cops, but I am hot with fury anyway because I’ve witnessed police brutality all my life. As a gay activist in NYC, I personally witnessed cops behaving constantly like the lawless thugs they so often are. As a resident of northwest Detroit, I personally watched cops in the suburbs target and harass Black people for the “crime” of daring to drive north of 8 Mile. And because I’m a writer who focuses on social justice, my newsfeeds are thick every day with accounts of racist police brutality. I’m so furious I feel nauseated. I can’t imagine how I’d even manage how I’d cope if I were Black.
