Yup. I wanted to make that point by showing rather than telling. We didn’t tend to worry about sexually transmitted infections, because it seemed at the time like a good dose of amoxicillin could fix whatever ailed you.

Of course we know better now. What with the rise of antibiotic-resistant pathogens, safer sex practices are crucial, and would be even in the absence of HIV.

Multiply-drug-resistant strains of even simple STIs mean that we can never go back to the days of thinking that unprotected sex was a healthy choice.
