I’ve just had a look at your review. Nice.

I think maybe some post-Stonewall queer voices and activists do feel a bit hostile to older forms of gay culture. I’ve experienced some of that. But as an activist myself with Act Up and Queer Nation, I encountered more than my fair share of “official” voices who loved sidling up to a piano in a bar to belt out some Broadway ditties.

Culture evolves. Things change.

I think loss of community is going to be an inevitable side effect of normalization and integration. I don’t like it because I’m a member of my generation immersed in my culture.

On the other hand, if it’s no longer necessary that we be special and set apart — well, that really is part of what we’re working for, I think.
