Thank you, that's really lovely. You remind me that Pride, at least in several big American cities as I experienced personally, remained centrally focused on protest right through the 1990s. Every Pride event I witnessed in New York City through the 1990s featured almost all cops turning their backs on the parade when contingents of gay New York City cops marched by.
