Thank you, Katy. I only mentioned the body-shaming comments as an aside in my own article, so I sincerely appreciate your taking the time to expand on the idea. And expand so well!

My article about Fr. Lavigne still has traction, and people on Twitter and Facebook are still mocking his appearance. I don’t have the time or the energy to reply to all the body-shaming comments, but wow — I wish I did.

The irony for me, is that I find the man to be rather decent looking. It was the juxtaposition between his pleasant persona, “nice” reputation, and his homophobia that made me want to write the story in the first place. I found it really interesting that a man who is by all accounts a very nice person could nevertheless subscribe to a toxic, damaging belief system.

It just never occurred to me that people would leap past all that and mock him for his appearance. Ah, the lessons one learns on Twitter!
