Thank you for writing this. The American capacity to equivalate sexuality with humiliation is something we need to work on. While the two cases you cite are very different, they each fundamentally center on sexual shaming.
As a gay man, I have struggled against that sense of shame all my life. I recognize it when I see it, and I oppose it.
Yes, let’s fight hard against sexual abuse. Let’s not tolerate man who hurt women physically, emotionally, sexually, or otherwise.
But can we refrain from the sexual witch hunts, please? We should be better than this.
