Thank you! You know, I'm really disappointed by a lackluster response to this story, which is getting read far less than most of the stories I write. I'm disappointed, but I'm not surprised. Over the years on Medium, I've written several stories about the plight of queer refugees, and those stories have always performed poorly relative to my other stories.

I thought this time would be different. I thought that Ibraham's plight and his powerful voice would resonate with people.

Medium did its part, boosting this story just a couple hours after I published it. I had my hopes up that this time would be different.

But it hasn't been. People who usually read my stories aren't clicking on this one, people who do click are reading at a far lower percentage than normal for my stories.

People aren't sharing. People are barely commenting. I don't know why. But whatever the reason is, that's probably partially the same reason that conditions at Kakuma remain so abominable for LGBTQ refugees.

I wish things were different. I wish people cared.
