Suburban white people keep acting like this is normal, but it is not normal. Buying your son a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol for Christmas is something new under the sun. 9 mm semi-automatic pistols exist for one purpose — killing other human beings.

Going to a shooting range with a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol is about practicing killing other human beings.

Doing that with a 15-year-old? I’m sorry, but that’s sick. Our culture is sick. Let it be said. Let it be acknowledged.

This did not happen, not in any widespread way, until recently. Look, when I was a teen, my dad got me a little shotgun for hunting pheasants and quail. We lived near the country, and that was ordinary. But he kept it locked up. I got to hold it when we went out hunting, and that’s it. Because I was a kid, and he knew I needed time to mature and become responsible.

I’m certain that if I had asked him for any kind of a semi-automatic assault weapon designed for the express purpose of killing people, he would have laughed in my face, astonished that I even dare to ask the question.

I’m certain that the same would have happened among all my peer set. “No, of course you can’t have that!” would have been the answer from all the parents.

That’s changed, because white people are now worshiping assault weapons. White people on the right have fetishized them. They’ve become a normalized part of our culture, even for children.

Is it any surprise kids are dying? What would be really surprising would be if they weren’t.
