Stephanie Moga wrote about this particularly today, and I left a long comment talking about how restricting the definition of transgender people can be racist by effect.
Something we all probably need to think about in terms of the Oppression Olympics. I could slap an intersectional label on the issue and be done with it, but that’s not really fully explanatory.
If you define people out of “transness” because their race, national origin, immigration status, or poverty level reduces or eliminates their ability to access expensive surgical or medical procedures, then they suffer not just for being trans but for all those other reasons. They suffer because of the intersection of marginalization.
