"Starting in 1979, SBC began an internal battle for control marked by the “Conservative Resurgence,”

I remember the shift very well, because my father was a Baptist minister in the south at the time. By the late 1970s, Southern Baptists had a reputation as being "liberal" and "worldly" compared to many other Baptists. They still mostly did through 1982 when I left the organized Christian world. When I started looking into it again many years later, I was shocked to find how fundamentalist and conservative the Convention had become.

Am I shocked to see what it led to? Not hardly, sadly.
