Spot on. My father died of COPD a couple months ago. Even though he had a fairly healthy retirement income, and even though I helped him financially, his COPD medication was a crippling expense. We paid more for his monthly meds than many Americans pay for their mortgages.
This despite the fact that he had Medicare and a decent supplemental policy.
When Covid19 hit, his medication costs swelled even more. His rescue inhaler, normally a $15 copay, went up to $45. And that’s the least of it.
So Trump wants to give people a $200 Medicare drug card? One time? I’m sorry, but $200 wouldn’t have dented our monthly medication budget. It would barely have made a difference.
And then what would we have done the next month?
I can’t help but see Trump’s $200 Medicare cards as blatant bribes. But even if they are not that, they do nothing to help solve the crisis of skyrocketing drug expenses sapping seniors' ability to enjoy quality of life after they retire.
