Spot on!
We Americans and Brits really do have weird ideas about the appropriateness of touch.
When I wrote that Turkish barber story, I got quite a few comments on social media from non-Americans really didn’t understand what I was trying to say.
I think they were puzzled because in their cultures, touch is more normal and accepted. I wrote the story from the point of view of a person who experiences touch as something vanishingly rare.
And it’s a shame it has to be that way.
