Speaking of driving, my late partner and I once took an incredibly scenic drive from San Diego to San Francisco, stopping for the night near Big Sur. We'd spent time in California previous to that, but the drive up old Highway 1 showed us the state's beauty in ways we'd never have seen otherwise. Quite an amazing experience! We stopped frequently, and I can still hear surf singing to forest in a chorus of remarkable beauty.

It's fitting, I think, that one of the nation's most beautiful states is also one of the states that is most welcoming to queer people.
