Sounds like a must-watch, Eki! Thanks very much for sharing your impressions with us! I really appreciate being able to think about the queer experience beyond my personal geographic horizons, and your film recommendations are invaluable.
This series, the way you present it, suggests to me that queer life in my western world was once (decades ago) both similar to and different from East Asian queer life today.
I talk about a similar idea sometimes with a South Asian trans friend. Sometimes, it looks like the arc of queer liberation in India closely resembles U.S. queer history. Then a closer examination reveals key differences, neither for better or worse, just reflections of differences in Indian society itself.
We all have a lot to learn from one another!
Of course, the television series you're reviewing wasn't produced with global understanding as a primary goal — but by East Asian queer people for East Asian queer people.
I for one am very happy, though, for the opportunity to look beyond my own walls.
