Sort of like the difference between powdered cocaine and crack. Powdered cocaine is very expensive, and in some circles even though it’s illegal it’s still a status symbol. Wealthy, powerful white business people can gain rather than lose prestige by occasionally indulging in powdered cocaine.

But let them smoke crack, and suddenly they’re the dregs of society.
