Something to think about here is that it is all but impossible to place an out gay child in any school anywhere where they will not be subject to at least some bullying by peers. Parents are left with the choice of judging how bad the bullying is with respect to how well the child seems to thrive in spite of it. Then, when living in a rural corner of the Tennessee valley, seeking alternative schools is no routine matter.
