Something else readers might like to know about the bishop. In 2018, she worked with the family of Matthew Shepard, inviting them to permanently inter his remains at the National Cathedral.

Shepherd was tortured to death in rural Wyoming by acquaintances in 1998, because being gay. His family had not found a permanent resting place for him that was free of vandalism and desecration by people who hate gay people.

So now he’s buried at the National Cathedral among heroes of the nation, thanks to Bishop Mariann Budde’s compassion.

This is ALSO a lesson that I think will fly right over the heads of most Christians in the United States, who seem not to understand core principles of their professed faith.
