Some of the most vulnerable transgender women in the world are Black. Black transgender women suffer disproportionate harm in the world. While the world went crazy wondering what happened to white YouTube personality Gaby Petito, a Black transgender woman in Miami went missing. LGBTQ advocates begged major media outlets to cover the story and help her be found. They didn't, she turned up dead. Nobody cared.

This is a normal narrative.

Transgender people, and remember many of those people are Black women, felt shocked and hurt by Chapelle's special. They say they felt laughed at and not laughed with despite his protestations to the contrary – especially given how truly awful things are getting in the UK right now.

I'm not saying cancel him either, even if that could be done. All I'm doing is asking why trans people have to be the butt of jokes.
