So much to unpack here! First, the Trump Administration is demonizing would-be refugees in order to stoke fear and xenophobic bigotry — for raw political gain.

Second, asylum policies have just been made so restrictive that almost nobody from Central America has even a remote chance of being granted asylum, no matter how great the need. We had been granting about 300 to 400 Central Americans asylum per year. Now that number is going to drop to about zero.

Third, LGBTQ people fail much more frequently in asylum requests than straight/cis people with similar claims, but since Trump and his people took charge, almost no LGBTQ people are being granted asylum.

Talk about dismissing humanity. It’s a travesty.
