So much for just asking questions. The anti-trans crowd has for the most part dropped all pretenses. They aren't pretending to care about the children anymore. They're all about hating trans people.
I'd like to add that when you follow some of these people on social media and watch their very transphobic posts, their followers' comments are always frightening.
Hundreds or thousands of people reply to express their visceral hatred of transgender people. The slurs they use! The disgust at the center of their messaging!
I once interviewed and wrote a story about a trans boy who could no longer access HRT in Florida, so his mother sold everything she owned and got them to New York State where they lived in a homeless shelter until she got back on her feet again.
I promoted that story on Twitter, and the avalanche of hate toward that kid was ... beyond hard to take.
Several people told me that they didn't care if he died. He's mentally ill and he deserves whatever he gets, according to them. (Which, what does that say about what they think about people who actually are mentally ill? Mentally ill people deserve to die? These are the kind of people we're dealing with. They're monsters.)
That Trevor Project study you cited was published in Nature, one of the most tightly gate-kept publications in the life sciences. Only the highest quality research finds its way between the covers of Nature.
One thing we can be sure of is that this is real. The suffering of trans youth is real. Increasing suicide rates are real and disturbingly significant. So, it's beyond me how many decent person could oppose decent treatment of trans kids.
It's just shocking to log onto social media and see all the hatred, the raw hatred, so many people routinely express towards trans adults and trans kids. Classic witch hunt? I guess.
As you and I discussed yesterday, many trans adults in the U.K. are being newly refused HRT by their GPs, forced to de-transition unless they can find and pay for their own hormones.
As the witch hunt ramps up.
