So many states like Ohio passed harsh laws, pushed by the most extremist Republican lawmakers, when Roe was still in effect. Now the Republicans are stuck with the laws they passed, even when they don't like the consequences, which they didn't have to seriously think about when Roe blocked the laws anyway.
So here we see Yost still failing to grapple with the reality, and at a loss for what to do other than just lie.
Republicans in these states are in a tough position. Modifying their abortion bans will enrage the base. Leaving the bans intact in all their harshness and inhumanity will enrage just about everyone else.
All they can do now is punt, meaning try to change the subject the way they did in this case, first by denying it happened, then by baselessly smearing the Indiana physician who told the press about it, and now by baselessly climbing the abortion would not have been against the law in Ohio.
It's up to the rest of us not to let them change the subject.
