"So, it was with an abundance of caution and respect that this media outlet emailed Rebel Wilson’s representatives on Thursday morning, giving her two days to comment on her new relationship"

Every LGBTQ person I know who has seen this story has had their jaws drop when they read that paragraph.

Respect?

You have two days to comment before we out you? And that's respect?

The newspaper is trying to present being gay or bisexual as the same as being straight, in terms of practical life consequences. But of course it isn't. To this day actors agonize about whether or not they should come out as queer, because of potential career-damaging consequences.

For decades, the general consensus among journalists has been has been that outing LGBTQ people is unethical in most circumstances.

So when and why did this newspaper decide the rules have changed? Their editor's remarks seem disingenuous in ignoring that question.

He has to know that outing public figures against their will is considered to be wrong.
