So important to point out! Random anti-gay street attacks are surging in the United Kingdom. You can find an example almost every day in the press.
Homophobia (by that measure) is as endemic in British society as it is in U.S. society.
Random street violence isn't the only thing to look at in terms of homophobia endemic in British society. Just look at the Church of England, which in recent years has demonstrated itself to be revoltingly homophobic, led by a revoltingly homophobic man who refused to allow the same-sex-married spouses of Canadian and US Anglican bishops to participate in the most recent Lambeth conference.
And then to top off his extremist homophobia, he declared to the world as a "compromise" that we gay people are sinners, a teaching he said cannot and will not change.
He's just a vicious homophobe, as cruel and immoral as Suella Braverman.
American and Canadian Anglicans were appalled and sickened by the unapologetic cruelty and evil of the Archbishop of Canterbury, and by the people who run the Church of England — who recently refused to even consider permitting same-sex marriage.
We Americans and Canadians mostly believed that homophobia like that did not exist in England. That was a real wake up call for us, besides being another indicator that homophobia is indeed rife in the U.K.
