So, a guy followed me yesterday, and as I sometimes do when that happens, I checked out his profile. He’d posted three articles in his month on Medium. Nothing interesting. Self-helpy, life-coachy pablum. Be all you can be. Blah blah blah. Almost no applause. I

Then I noticed he had 1,000 followers. I was like, WTF? Is there something to his content I’m missing? So I clicked on a couple stories to dig deeper. Nope, they were tepid piles of warmed over aphorisms.

So I examined a little more closely. He was following almost 5,000 people. So, essentially, almost 1 out 5 people he’d followed had followed him back, even with his almost total lack of actual writing.

I guess that’s nice for bragging rights. But who cares? There’s still nobody reading his stuff.

WTF, indeed.
