Right, I felt like I needed to write this, because the hoopla was obscuring some hard truths, but it is not going to be a popular article. It almost feels like party pooping to point out the problems, especially when RMA's symbolism is positive and powerful.

What I mean is, most Americans wanted this law to pass. Most Americans wanted this law to pass even though they thought the law was better for LGBTQ equality than it actually is.

That really is worth celebrating, and maybe one day in the not very distant future, Congress will be able to muster the votes to do a better job.

Almost all major LGBTQ publications are celebrating today, and I get it. But LGBTQ legal advocates are quietly troubled, and we need to be talking about that too.
