Reminds me that the town where I was born and where most of my extended family still live used to have several active Catholic parishes, some mostly Italian-American and some mostly Irish-American. (I'm sure you could never guess by my name which community my family belongs to. 😂) Anyway, they only have two active churches now, and one of them doesn't have a regular pastor. Also, the ethnic divide has all but disappeared. The Catholic high school in town is still going strong, mostly based on a good academic reputation. But a cousin of mine who used to be a social worker there couldn't wait to get out after they started becoming more and more politically and culturally conservative. She says the whole climate of the school has changed dramatically (for the worst from her fairly liberal perspective) from when she was a student and from when she first started working there directly out of college.
